Worshipping
Together
Our best-attended service is the 10:30
sung Eucharist on Sunday mornings. Most Sundays our own choir is
present, and sometimes we benefit from the presence of a visiting
choir. Our own world-class organist, Wijnand van de Pol, or our
assistant organist Gabriele Catalucci plays our wonderful Conacher
- Mascioni organ (see the Music page for
more information about the organ). We use seasonal booklets based
on Common Worship for this service. On the first Sunday of the month
beginning in October 2004 our 10.30 Sunday Eucharist will be a slightly
shorter and simpler liturgy. The children will not have Sunday School
on this day, but will remain upstairs in church. Four times a year
we have special all-age services in which the children and youth
take a bigger role. We have special children's liturgies at Christmas
and Easter.
At 8.30 on Sunday mornings we offer
a said Eucharist from the Book of Common Prayer. This is a quiet,
contemplative service, and unless we have a group of pilgrims visiting
us, it is usually attended by just a few regulars.
On the first Sunday of the month (November - June)
our organist, Wijnand van de Pol or one of his students offers a
contemplative service of music known as Organ Vespers at 5 pm. Sung
Evensong follows at 6 pm.
Every weekday morning at 8:00 we say
Morning Prayer in the chancel. At this time we are using Common
Worship Daily Prayer and saying the whole book of Psalms on a two
month cycle. Some people choose attendance at Morning Prayer as
a way of keeping Advent or Lent, others come on a day of remembrance,
or because they have not had a chance to worship at a Sunday service.
There is small group of regulars, and the chaplain and the administrative
assistant are always present.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays the Eucharist
is celebrated in the side chapel at 12 noon. On Thursdays the Eucharist
is celebrated at 7 pm. We use Common Worship for these services,
except on Fridays when we use The Book of Common Prayer. On the
first Wednesday of the month, the noon Eucharist includes a service
of Healing and Wholeness, which begins with silent meditation at
11.30, for those who wish to prepare in this way.
On Tuesdays we do not have a Eucharist
at All Saints', but go instead to the 12.45 Eucharist at the Anglican
Centre.
In addition to these regular services,
we have special yearly events like our Festal Evensong for All Saints'
Day, when many ecumenical guests are present, the Service of Lessons
and Carols on the last Sunday before Christmas, and our special
pre-dawn Easter morning Eucharist followed by a gala breakfast.
Retreats, study groups, and youth group meetings afford other opportunities
for informal worship.
The worshipping traditions of other
Christian groups which use our facilities - the Filipino Christian
Fellowship and a group of Christians from Sri Lanka - help us to
look outward from our own Anglican prospective into the wider world
of Christian worship.
Please note that all baptised Christians
who are admitted to Holy Communion in their own churches are welcome
to receive Communion in All Saints'. If you prefer not to receive
the sacrament, you are invited to come forward for a blessing, carrying
your service booklet with you, so that the ministers will be aware
of your intention.
